One of the 2017 Special Releases from Diageo, this 18 year old Speyside single malt was distilled at Glen Elgin distillery in 1998. Assembled from two batches, one using Pombe yeast and matured in ex-bodega casks, the other using conventional cerevisiae yeast and matured in refill European oak butts, only 5,352 bottles have been produced at a cask strength of 54.8% abv. There’s sweet vanilla toffee on the nose, giving way to herbal notes of fennel and freshly cut grass, while candied nuts and polished oak mingle with cream and fresh fruits. The palate is smooth and sweet, with honey and brown sugar atop oaky spice and light cinnamon. The finish is dry and oaky with brown sugar and hints of anise.
